Who Are We?
We are a small Highland based charity, run by a committee who are family members of deaf children or professionals who work with deaf people. HDCS exists to provide much needed support and advice to families of deaf or partially hearing children in Highland.

Meet the Team
Sheena Robertson
CHAIRPERSON
My name is Sheena, I have one moderaltly deaf daughter Kylah, who was born in 2005. She was a late diagnosis. This is when we joined Highland Deaf Children Society. I have been chair for HDCS since around 2017. In my day job I work as a staff nurse at Raigmore Hospital.
Leanne Rodden
TREASURER/SECRETARY
Im Leanne and Mum to 5 boys! I have two hearing sons and three with hearing losses (one with a mild loss, one with a moderate loss and one with a profound loss). We joined HDCS back in 2008 when my eldest son was diagnosed and aided. HDCS has been a great place of support , fun and friendships for myself and the boys.

Why We Do
What We Do
For deaf children, life can be difficult, tiring and stressful; the proceeds of our fundraising activities will allow us to continue to support families to learn British Sign Language (BSL) and to provide regular clubs for our children and young people. At our clubs, children of all ages with any type of hearing loss can meet, socialise, relax, share experiences and have fun together, knowing that communication won’t be an issue.
This builds self-esteem, confidence and reduces feelings of isolation that is very common for deaf people. For many this is the only time that these children can meet with their deaf peers and make new friends.
The events and activities organised throughout the year will have BSL:/English interpreters attending to ensure that the events are accessible for all attendees whether hearing siblings/parents or the deaf child themselves. I do hope you can support us this year to continue our vital work.
